The possession of a visa is essential for access to Mongolian soil. Mongolia issues this document online via a special platform. To obtain it, you will need to provide a few supporting documents and a photo beforehand.
Only Chinghis Khaan Airport (UBN) is currently accessible.
Nationalities eligible to receive a Mongolian e-visa
Like other countries, Mongolia too has restricted access to its territory for various reasons. Only nations officially authorised to do so can obtain its e-visa. These are scattered all over the world.
The Mongolian government has officially given its approval to a number of countries. In total, 98 nations and territories are eligible to obtain a Mongolian digital visa. It should be noted in passing that 24 other nations and territories are exempt from obtaining this document permanently and 34 others (including Europeans) temporarily until the end of 2025.
Provide the authorities with some essential documents
Obtaining the e-visa for Mongolia requires you to provide some personal information. They include your full name as well as your date of birth. Similarly, other information such as your passport number and place of accommodation is essential.
In addition, there are additional documents available to download online. You must also attach a visible photo to the document so that you can be easily identified.
The personal details to be provided must match those shown on the passport. However, as soon as you have all the necessary documents, you should submit them online via the website indicated above.
The immigration officers will study the application and, once they have approved it, they will send the e-visa by email. It should be noted that before travelling, all foreign nationals must have a printed copy of this document.
Along the way, you must present it to the female officers carrying out checks. A visa does not, however, guarantee your entry into the territory of Mongolia. For a number of reasons, you may be refused entry at any time.
Additional documents
Additional documents are essential when the duration of the stay exceeds 30 days. They consist of an authorisation from the Bureau de l'Immigration, de la Naturalisation et des Étrangers.
You will also need to present a hospitality certificate from a Mongolian travel agency. Finally, you will need your most recent payslip. This must be accompanied by your bank statements for the last three months. Please note that all documents will be scanned and sent online.
Proof of transport depending on the type of vehicle used
To enter Mongolia, you must present a proof of transport. This is a document showing that you can leave the country at any time. This depends on the means of transport you have used.
If you are travelling by plane, you will need to show a copy of your ticket for both the outward and return journeys. The same applies to trains and buses. However, if you are travelling by car, a few specific documents are required.
The first is the certificate of registration of the vehicle concerned. After that, you must have a copy of the vehicle's insurance certificate. This must indicate cover in Mongolia.
You will also need a letter explaining your stay. This must include a number of details about your stay. Starting with the route by which you will enter the country, and the detailed itinerary you must follow. It must also detail the length of the journey and the number of towns you will be visiting.
Proof of accommodation
Proof of accommodation is also essential. They must indicate the precise locations with supporting evidence. This includes confirmation of hotel reservations or a travel certificate. The latter must come from a travel agency and must indicate the accommodation arrangements for the duration of the trip.
In the case of accommodation in a private vehicle, you will also need to provide a number of documents. This time, only one or more photos are required to show that accommodation is available during the stay.
Are there any restrictions on entering Mongolia?
Apart from the conditions mentioned above, there are no longer any special formalities to be completed. As proof, the health provisions have been lifted since 14 March 2022. This means that travellers are not banned from entering the country, regardless of their vaccination status. Since the reopening of the territory, quarantine periods on arrival are no longer required.
